Dr. D. Dhanuraj, Chairman- Centre for Public Policy Research spoke on the Dos and Don’ts of voicing opinion on social media during election time. He mentioned the various methods adopted by Social media like Facebook and Twitter to discourage actions that are not in line with the election commission’s code of conduct. He opined that the present system of using EVMs for elections is one of the best in the world.
This session was part of an Awareness Session on 2019 Election was organized by WTC Kochi in association with the Ernakulam District Administration, SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education & Electoral Participation) and Prathidhwani. The programme held at WTC Kochi was attended by employees of Infopark.
Sub- Collector Mr. Snehil Kumar Singh IAS chaired the programme and spoke about the importance of casting vote and also provided an idea of the new EVM and VVPAT being used first time. He addressed about some of the measures taken by the administration to make the system fool proof and tamperproof. Certain Assured Minimum Facilities like Signage, Drinking water, Toilets, Ramp and Help desk at each Polling station. He also mentioned the cVIGIL mobile app through which citizens can report any activities that violate the rules laid down by the Election commission.
Ms. Beena Anand, Tahsildar and Nodal officer for SVEEP, spoke on the importance of voting and recited the voting pledge to the attendees. Ms. Dhanya of Haritha Kerala Mission spoke about the green protocol being followed during the election time. There was also a mock polling station which helped the participants to clear their queries with the election officials.
Dr. Bose Nair, Vice President WTC Kochi moderated the discussions and Mr. Ashik Sreenivasan, Secretary, Prathidhwani proposed the Vote of Thanks.
