Waste management is an ever-pressing concern for municipalities across the globe, and Pattambi Municipality, nestled along the banks of the Bharathapuzha river in the Palakkad District of Kerala, India, is no exception.


This case study, by CPPR’s Urban Fellow Noorbina Sulthana ST, focuses on the waste management procedures used by Pattambi Municipality, with special attention to the Pattambi Municipality Waste Management Plant. The study explores the waste management practices of the municipality, illuminating its approaches and difficulties. It evaluates the efficacy of the methods used by the plant, including shredding, producing bio-manure, working with private waste management companies, and selling recyclable materials, in addressing this pressing issue.
