ABOUT THE TOPIC

An interactive session on “The Future of Mobility in Kochi” was held on 4th August 2025 as an initiative of the Kochi International Foundation (KIF), in collaboration with Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) and the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) at the Kerala Management Association Hall, Panampilly Nagar, Kochi.

The session was chaired by Dr. M. Ramachandran, Chairman, KIF (Former Secretary, Urban Development, Government of India); and the panel included Shri Loknath Behera, Managing Director, KMRL (Former DGP); Shri D Dhanuraj, Chairman, CPPR; Shri Nagaraju Chakilam IPS, Transport Commissioner of Kerala; Shri S.K. Mahesh Kumar IPS, IG Traffic & Road Safety; and Dr. Mahalakshmi Sankar, Head, Centre for Sustainable Initiatives, St Albert’s College (Autonomous). The panellists shared their insights into the challenges and opportunities in Kochi’s mobility landscape during the discussion.

The discussion focused on various mobility challenges that need addressing for a better mobility future of the city, including improving last-mile connectivity and pedestrian infrastructure across the city, reforming private bus operations, technology integration for integrated mobility, strengthening the Kochi Metropolitan Transport Authority (KMTA), among others.
