The webinar, “Harnessing Non-Renewable Energy along the Indian Coasts for Sustainable Development,” is organised by the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), in collaboration with The Asia Foundation (TAF), as part of the Indian Coastal Alliance (ICA) project.

India has a vast coastline of 11,098.81 km, offering immense potential for harnessing coastal and marine energy resources. With increasing energy demands and climate commitments, India is exploring sustainable alternatives in non-renewable energy, including offshore wind energy, tidal energy, wave energy, and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC). India has an ambitious renewable energy target of achieving 500 GW from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030. Coastal energy can play a crucial role in this transition.

This webinar will explore actionable strategies to accelerate coastal energy development across India’s western and eastern seaboards, particularly examining successful pilot projects and how they can be scaled up. It also seeks to address concerns of coastal stakeholders, on balancing energy development with marine ecosystem protection and creating livelihood opportunities for coastal communities.
