Pathanamthitta town is a quaint municipality located in the south of Kerala. Although the town is blessed with abundant natural beauty, its urban area lacks adequate recreational spaces for its dwellers. Being the administrative capital of the district makes the issue even more glaring. This can hamper several prospects for the town, be they in terms of health or tourism opportunities. Here, recreational spaces are taken in a broad gamut to include open gyms, museums, parks, and stadiums that offer spaces for fitness, culture, leisure, and sports-related activities, respectively.

This policy brief was created to investigate and analyse the issue and offer recommendations geared towards immediate implementation. For this, the issue was studied at length using stakeholder interactions and literature studies. A public survey was also conducted to gather public opinion on the matter. This brief is intended for use by citizens, planners, bureaucrats, and policymakers.
