In a recent article by the Times of India, Nijeesh Narayanan writes about the much-anticipated Global City project, proposed on 358 acres in Ayyampuzha as part Kochi-Bangalore Industrial Corridor (KBIC), being put on hold by the central government. This comes after concerns were raised that the project’s focus was more on residential and real estate developments than on industrial undertakings, as stipulated in the regulations.

Dr D Dhanuraj, Chairman of the Centre for Public Policy Research, also gave his input in the article, warning that delays in such mega projects could deter investors.

“The investors attending the upcoming global investors meet are expecting major components to invest in Global City. Small-scale projects such as schools and hospitals should not be a part of such big projects,” he was quoted as saying.

He also added a suggestion to adopt models from Rajasthan and Gujarat, where large-scale components attract investments up to Rs 1 lakh crore during investor summits.
