‘Youngsters Vote for Modi’, The New Indian Express, March 30th, 2014

Sandeep Shastri, Political scientist and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Jain University, opined that in the coming election, more youngsters will vote for BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. He was speaking on the topic ‘Emerging Electoral Lanscape: Analysis of Indian Democracy” in the ‘Sixth Quarterly Lecture Series’ conducted by Kochi based think-tank CPPR on Saturday.

Voters below 25 are looking over communal issues that happened in the past, said Sandeep Shastri. “A 52 per cent below 25 years of age would vote for Modi, a 32 per cent elders would also vote for Modi,” he said.

On Rahul Gandhi, the professor was of the opinion that he is yet to come of age. Rahul’s ideology is promising but people find him poor on good qualities, he said. The Aam Aadmi Party, according to the professor, should not have entered into electoral politics now. They should have built their agendas outside politics, said Sandeep.

He opined that both fronts are fighting election neck and neck in Kerala and that it has made any predictions impossible.

However, Professor G Gopakumar, ICSSR Senior Fellow and former dean of Kerala University Social Science Department, who spoke on the lecture series predicted 12 seats for UDF in Kerala.
