To tap the expertise of the city’s senior citizens, the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) launched ‘Paripakam’ at CPPR’s Elamkulam office on November 18. The forum was inaugurated by MLA Dominic Presentation and chaired by Deputy Mayor Bhadra Satheesh. Professor M K Sanoo and Retd IAS officer P C Cyriac were also present on the occasion. The programme was attended by several persons who have retired from service in various government departments.
‘Paripakam’ is a Senior Citizen’s Action Forum, which will give the elderly in Kochi the opportunity to help in research; a platform where they can use their knowledge and expertise for the city’s development.
In his keynote address, MLA Presentation said this initiative to incorporate the expertise of senior citizens in development will help find solutions to most issues faced by the city. While newly appointed Deputy Mayor Satheesh congratulated CPPR on its initiative and promised all support from the Corporation, Prof Sanoo said he had complete faith that this initiative would be a great success. P C Cyriac, in his speech, stressed on the importance of transparency in governance. “Corruption is everywhere. It cannot be avoided. Such forums should work to change the existing system and bring more transparency to it,” he said.
An interactive session with MLA Presentation and Deputy Mayor Satheesh was the highlight of the function. Several senior citizens highlighted current social issues and challenges faced by the city, and discussions were carried out.
