Dr Chandra Ranade,Virginia International University will launch The CPPR Centre for Comparative Studies in India at Kochi on September 6th, 2013 at 4 pm at Bharat Hotel (BTH), Kochi, Kerala. He will also deliver lecture on “Various Indicators of Economic Development at State Level in India“.

The Focused Study Centre (FSC) will be a sub division of CPPR. The centre will be headed and advised by a known expert in the field of Comparative Politics of India. Research under focus study centres will be carried out by 2 senior researchers cum scholars under CPPR Focus Study Centre (FSC) Fellowship scheme for each academic year. Through conducting research, a series of paper will be published quarterly. Op-Eds and articles are targeted in peer reviewed journals, magazines and newspapers.

CSI will be more focused on the rules and laws that each Indian states follows and the effects and impacts of such laws upon the betterment of people and the state as a whole .Also to understand the unique initiatives of each states for its citizens and to look upon the education and health status of each state and to identify the reasons for its varied pattern also to identify the factors that leads to the regional disparities and its effects upon the Indian economy.

Conferences, seminars, discussions, workshops etc will be conducted to spread the word of knowledge in the area of comparative studies of states in India among the citizens and various stakeholders. Contemporary issues with a regional flavour will be chosen for these activities.

Profile of Dr Chandra Ranade

Dr Chandra RanadeDr. Ranade did Master of Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta and Ph.d. from Cornell University in Agricultural Economics. He has a long experience in doing research on Economic Development in various countries in the world. Presently he is an adjunct faculty member in the Virginia International University and Stratford University both located in Virginia, USA. He is also a faculty member in the semester long Global Voyage, called Semester at Sea, organized by the Institute of Shipboard Education, Charlottesville, Virginia. Dr. Ranade worked in the World Bank for over 18 years. Prior to joining the World Bank he was a faculty member at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
