The information technology has broadened in a way that the common man can avail information from the government authorities in an easier and transparent manner. Shri N.Sreenath, Press Club Secretary gave the presidential address. He indicated the website as a system to amplify the transparency in a democratic country like ours.
The Key note address was given by Shri V.V Giri, State Information Commissioner. He elaborated the
audience with the advantages of the Digital RTI Mission website and the impediments in the implementation of the RTI. He said, “The attitude towards RTI has to be changed. The high profile and low profile government officials can be approached for RTI and there are no impediments in delivering the information as per the positions they hold.” He claimed that the common man has every right to obtain the information from the government authorities. He also alleged the uncertainty in the purpose and beneficiaries of RTI still prevails. It was followed by the presentation of the Digital RTI Mission website by Ms. Sreeja Chandran, project lead. She demonstrated the various features of the website to the audience. The interaction with V.V Giri gave an opportunity to the audience for clarifying the issues in RTI. Adv. D.B Binu, prominent RTI activist delivered the felicitation. He opined that this platform can raise the easy availability of RTI information to the common man. The vote of thanks was given by Adv. Jithin Paul Varghese from CPPR. The program was participated by prominent RTI activists across the state, students from various institutions and media journalists.
