Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), in association with the local self-government, various civil society organizations and the residents of Kochi, plans to conduct Kochi Public Transport Day; a year-long campaign to conduct studies to close the gaps in Kochi’s existing public transport systems, and to encourage the use of public transport. One day of every month will be celebrated as Kochi Public Transport Day, with a different theme assigned for each month. A plethora of activities are planned in addition to endeavors like maintaining an informative website, conducting public forums, discussions, competitions. These initiatives are purported to create awareness among the public and encourage the residents of Kochi to use public transport. The year long campaign and the website launch will mark its beginning as we celebrate the first Kochi Public Transport Day on 27th January 2018.
There will be an inaugural ride involving the three modes of public transport in Kochi; the bus, metro rail, and boat services, as a symbolic gesture highlighting Kochi’s unique multimodal and integrated public transport services. As part of the Public Transport Day activities for January, we are planning a cleaning drive at Ernakulam bus stand and Fort Kochi jetty by students and residents, exhorting people to join the movement.
We take this opportunity to invite you to the inaugural Kochi Public Transport Day on January 27 and request you to wear a blue ribbon in support of the public campaign.
