The next Kochi Bus Day will be observed on July 20, 2011, at Vytilla Bus Bay between 8 am and 11 am. Kochi residents are requested to leave their private vehicles and travel by bus to save the city from traffic congestion and effects of fuel hike.
The Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) initiated this promotional campaign with the Indian Chamber, Uninor and Red FM as partners. This venture has the support of the City Traffic Police, Motor Vehicles Department, City Police, District Administration, Cochin Corporation, KSRTC, PBOO, PBOA Vytilla and Resident’s Associations. The Indian Chamber will be distributing free coupons worth Rs 5 to commuters who leave their private vehicles at home on Bus Day. These coupons, which can be exchanged for travel (on private buses) worth the same value, will be available at all major petrol pumps. Commuters can also avail of a free ride on the decorated double decker KSRTC Bus travelling from Thoppumpady at 8.30 am to Angamaly and back to Vytilla. In addition, all passengers commuting on the specially decorated AC low floor bus from Vytilla in the morning can enjoy a free trip to their destinations.
