Mr Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Former Governor will talk on “State, Democracy and Politics of dissent in contemporary India” in the next CPPR Lecture Series at Kochi. The Talk will be held on 28th November 2013.

Gopalkrishna Gandhi has served the Indian government in various roles for the past four decades. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1968 and became Secretary to the Vice President of India from 1985 to 1987. From 1987-1992, he was Joint Secretary to the President of India. Upon retiring from the IAS in 1992, he became Minister of Culture in the High Commission of India, London. Between 1996 and 2002, he headed diplomatic missions to South Africa, Lesotho, Norway, Iceland and Sri Lanka, and was Secretary to the President. He was Governor of West Bengal (2004-2009), and was also the Governor of Bihar in 2005. As a writer, his work includes Refuge (Penguin India), a novel about the plight of Sri Lankan Tamil labourers working on a tea plantation, and Of A Certain Age (Penguin India), a collection of life sketches of 20 prominent personalities from the Gandhi-Nehru era. He has also edited The Oxford India Gandhi: Essential Writings (Oxford University Press).
