As a policy research organization, the CPPR-Centre for Urban Studies with expertise in urban mobility and transport has been researching and working on the various issues and challenges in the urban transport space. CPPR presents here a brief on the Kerala Metropolitan Transport Authority Bill. The bill is to form a unified metropolitan transport authority for planning, integration, development and control of transport and its related works in urban mobility areas. The 2017 Metro Rail Policy of the Government of India stipulates the formation of a unified metropolitan transport authority in areas where a metro rail is planned or implemented.
