D Dhanuraj, Chairman of the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), shared his views on the status of the UDF government’s Indira Guarantees in an article published by The South First. He noted that despite the Chief Minister repeatedly acknowledging the state’s financial constraints, the government could not entirely move away from its electoral commitments.
Dhanuraj observed that the Priyadarshini scheme, the most visible guarantee, has already been implemented, while announcements aimed at students and entrepreneurs indicate efforts to address the aspirations of these groups. He also pointed out that welfare initiatives need to be supported by adequate revenue generation and stressed the importance of developing appropriate policies and funding mechanisms to sustain such commitments.
