D Dhanuraj, Chairman of the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), underscored the need for a transport fare regulatory mechanism in Kerala in a report published by The Times of India.
“Without continuous monitoring, the state fails to maintain historical data, fare revision history or objective cost analysis, making future decisions look reactive rather than scientific. What we need is a regulatory mechanism that involves the local govt as well,” he said.
The report also points to examples from other states where dedicated transport fare regulatory mechanisms support long-term planning, reduce policy uncertainty, and improve the sustainability of public transport systems.
