Natpac submits proposal to redesign 10 major junctions in the city as part of the ‘Accident-Free Kochi’ project

‘GIVE DUE IMPORTANCE TO PEDESTRIAN MOVEMENT’
Commenting on the importance of redesigning junctions, D Dhanuraj, Chairman of the Centre for Public Policy Research, highlights “pedestrianisation”, too, should be of equal importance as the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
“A proper walkway and zebra crossing should be an essential part of any major junction. Moreover, a proper study of the junction, which includes the volume of vehicles and the nearby establishments, has to be conducted. Only then will we be able to design a junction in a scientific manner.”
“Free left, traffic island, grading, and proper lighting should also be in focus. Junction design also includes negotiations with the landowners. Sometimes, additional land may be required to implement the proper design”.
