Book Release – Dr Gopinath Panangad’s, “Scandinavian Greeshmam”

CPPR hosted the launch of the book, “Scandinavian Greeshmam,” authored by Dr Gopinath Panangad, Consultant (Projects) at the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR).

About the Book:

Scandinavian Greeshmam is a captivating Malayalam travelogue that takes readers on a journey through the landscapes, history, and culture of Scandinavia. Blending vivid storytelling with personal reflections, the book offers unique insights into Scandinavian society, nature, and traditions — serving as a cultural bridge for readers. The book not only serves as a travelogue but also as a cultural bridge, fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.

 

About the Author:

Dr Gopinath Panangad is a former Executive Director of Kerala State Literacy Mission; Special Private Secretary to Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Excise, Government of Kerala; Project Chief at Kerala State Women’s Commission; and Deputy General Manager of Kerala State Fisheries Federation. Dr Panangad started his career in All India Radio, where he bagged the National Award in Broadcasting followed by an overseas training programme in Advanced Communication by visiting England, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland. He holds MSW and PhD degrees.

A distinguished literary figure from Kerala, Dr Panangad has been conferred the esteemed Indian Literature Award for 2025 by the Indian Literature and Arts Society. This honor celebrates his exceptional contributions to Malayalam non-fiction, particularly in the domain of travel writing. His works are renowned for their ability to blend cultural insights with vivid storytelling, offering readers a window into diverse landscapes and traditions. The recognition underscores his profound influence on contemporary literature and his dedication to preserving and enriching the literary heritage of Kerala.

Among his notable works, Scandinavian Greeshmam stands as a masterpiece, capturing the essence of Scandinavian life through a lens of curiosity and admiration. Dr. Panangad’s narrative is both lyrical and informative, seamlessly weaving personal anecdotes with broader reflections on history, society, and nature. His keen observations and descriptive prowess transport readers to the serene fjords, bustling cities, and quiet villages of Scandinavia, making distant cultures feel intimately familiar.
