Cochin is fast emerging as the industrial and corporate hub of Kerala and such economic change results in increasing urbanization. The population of Cochin as at 2006 was recorded as 14.9 lakh, and is expected to grow to an astounding 20 lakh by 2020. To combat this population growth, economic growth is paramount for which adequate infrastructural and administrative support is critical. The Mayor and his or her office don this pivotal mantle.

The Mayor is responsible for managing the affairs of the Municipality; to preside over the meetings of the Municipal Council, to approve the budget presented by the Council, and to give orders or directions for implementation of resolutions passed by the Council or Committees.

How does this role impact the common man such as you and me? What can we expect as citizens from the Mayoral office? How can we empower ourselves and our Mayor sufficiently for the betterment of our City?

CPPR, jointly with the Chavara Cultural Centre, hopes to address some of these issues and questions during its interactive discussion on the ‘Role of the Mayor in the Developmen of the City’.  This programme will be held on 30th June, 2012, from 3 pm.
