The month long CPPR – ACE Summer School 2012 was envisaged as an attempt to introduce innovative methods of doing research. It sought to equip public policy researchers with new-age skills and groundbreaking practices that focused on grassroots-oriented, structured and original methods of conducting research using primary data, in addition to polishing communicative skills, and imparting techniques to conduct Legal Research & Market Oriented Research as well as make forays into New Public Management.

The 2012 Summer School provided varied fare with foreign scholars and public policy researchers from countries like Malaysia, and Nepal, to those from Lithuania and the Kyrgyz Republic come down to be trained in the finer elements of Research Methodology. They were also joined in their efforts by their Indian peers. The Course assumes particular significance, for apart from being a pilot venture for CPPR, it is also showcased some of the first attempts made to structure a course along such lines and to communicate it to an international target audience within a very short period.

The Course was both orchestrated by a very young team under the able guidance of Retired Prof. K.C Abraham. The Faculty who sought to engage the international audience combined entrepreneurial zeal with creative spirit, breathing new life into academic theories. The structure sought to provide adequate hands-on working experiences and thus many activities, including a survey study was organized under the auspices of Prof. Martin Patrick.

Similarly, young leaders shared classroom space with established names and luminaries in the field – beginning with Shri. Devi Prasad IES, (Director, the Fiscal Policy Institute, & Head of the Fiscal Policy Analysis Cell, Govt. of Karnataka) who inaugurated the event and the very distinguished Padma Shree Prof. (Dr.) N. R Madhava Menon both of whom kindly consented to our requests, to economist Lakshmi Ramaurthy and Ass. Prof. Antony Dawson D’Silva who have long shared a close association with CPPR.

The month-long Summer School which commenced on the 30th of April 2012 and concluded on the 24th of May thus provided much more than a mere academic curriculum. It was an interactive platform that engaged vibrant participants from all four corners of the world. It acted as a hub of ideas and a networking forum where advocacy and activism, ideology and research could meet, discuss and debate.

  1. Its such as you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the e-book in it or something. I think that you just can do with a few percent to pressure the message house a little bit, but instead of that, that is magnificent blog. A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
