ADR Centre organises unique course for law students
India produces hundreds of law students every year. But, how many of them are really equipped to become excellent lawyers? Do they have those specific skills that ensure their success? Taking these aspects into consideration, the ADR Centre, Kochi, is organizing a three-day residential certificate course, ‘Finishing School for Law Students’; one that provides unique insights into legal practice. The course is being conducted in association with the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) and Civitas Legal Solutions, from September 10-12, 2010, at Ashir Bhavan, Kochi.

Finishing School for Law Students is a unique course that provides a practical approach to law. The main objective of the course is to encourage students to think out of the box and equip them to be legal entrepreneurs; a unique group of skilled persons who have the confidence to achieve great heights in their career. The curriculum for the course has been framed keeping in mind subjects that are usually not taught in a law school.

It has often been noted that law school graduates are not in equipped to meet the expectations of the intensely competitive job market. Due to lack of proper training and awareness, most lawyers in the litigation and corporate sectors find it difficult to perform well. With the legal sector to be liberalized in the coming years, young law graduates will have to compete with their foreign counterparts, who are better trained. It is in this context that ADR Centre is joining hands with CPPR to train law students.

The course will include sessions on legal entrepreneurship, advocacy, governance and soft skills training. The resource persons include eminent lawyers, academicians, politicians, journalists, bureaucrats and trainers. Retired judges will also be involved in the process and the students will have interactive sessions with them. The course will also include mock sessions on advocacy, client management and mediation sessions.
