About Us

Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) is a think tank dedicated to extensive and in-depth research on current economic, social, and political issues. We study public policies with a dedicated, objective, and an unbiased approach. We strive to initiate policy changes by publishing our research and by framing policy debates and discussions on various subjects. Our research areas include Governance, Education, Health, Law, Livelihood, Strategy & Security and Urban Reforms. We have carried out research projects and worked on policy papers for government bodies, private institutions, and academia; many of which have had a profound impact at the governance level. CPPR has a good research team comprising of professionals from different fields of expertise and resource persons from across the world. Research internship is another key activity of CPPR. CPPR produces working papers in various fields. Innovative policy solutions and ideas that are in sync with global technological revolutions and entrepreneurship are the key components of our policy research.

Vision

CPPR aims to be a thought leader which is able to design and execute practical strategies that lead to changes in public policy and governance. The Centre is dedicated to the principles of liberal thought, democracy, rule of law and economic freedom with a focus on equity, efficiency and effectiveness.

Mission

CPPR’s mission is to conduct and promote high-quality evidence based research and training; provide government bodies, private organizations, and academic institutions with practical and innovative recommendations; and influence decision-making.

CPPR is committed to the following goals:

  • Promote research entrepreneurship and establish the centre as a knowledge based resource storehouse.
  • Work as a policy think tank that develops and promotes alternative solutions to issues concerned with the society.
  • Focus on information dissemination, capacity building and technology exposure by organizing seminars, workshops and dialogues.
  • Strengthen democratic institutions to enable coherent, reasoned and consistent policy formulation leading to better quality of life of every citizen.
  • Popularize liberal values, promote civil liberties and protect human rights.
  • Empower women and youth through sustainable community development programs.
  • Provide platform for every citizen to engage in political dialogue and democratic process.
  • Conduit the emergence of young leaders.

Senior Fellow

K V Thomas has over 36 years of distinguished service in the Intelligence Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. He has worked in various capacities in different parts of India including insurgency-affected areas of the North East, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala and is well-versed in the socioeconomic, political and developmental issues in those States. He has vast experience in the fields of intelligence, national security, policing, human/civil rights, ethnic conflicts and left-wing extremism. As a Fellow of National Police Academy, Hyderabad, he had undertaken a research project on Policing and Human Rights in Andhra Pradesh during 1998. His first book, “Human Rights, Terrorism and Policing,” published by the Indian Social Institute, New Delhi in 1999, unfolded a plethora of sensitive issues related to terrorism and policing. In 2012, his second work “Policing in 21st Century - Myth, Realities and Challenges”, was published. His third book,' Left Wing Extremism &Human Rights' has been published by Sage India, New Delhi in 2014. Besides,a number of his articles on National security, Policing and criminal justice system were published in Indian Police Journal (IPJ) and National Police Academy Journal. He is a winner of Presidents Police Medal(PPM) for distinguished service in 2008 and Indian Police Medal (IPM) for meritorious service in 1996.

MURALEEDHARAN NAIRMuraleedharan Nair, Senior Fellow

After basic studies at University of Kerala, Mr. Muraleedharan Nair did a Post-graduate programme in Marketing and Advertising from Bhavan’s Rajendra Prasad Institute of Communication and Management, Mumbai. He has passed with Distinction a Degree-level course in Chinese Language from the School of Foreign Languages, New Delhi. He has held various positions in Government of India, including as the Indian Consul in China. His postings abroad include those in the Indian diplomatic missions in Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China.
He has been participatingin China-related conferences and seminars at various educational institutions under University of Kerala, MG University and University of Calicut, Kerala. He also takes classes on China-related subjects at various institutions. Besides writing commentaries in Malayalam newspapers and magazines and giving talks at various academic institutions on contemporary issues related to his areas of expertise, Mr. Nair also participates in panel discussions on Malayalam TV channels and gives talks on All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram.

Masters in Economics from the University of Hyderabad in 2001 and PhD in Development Studies from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research,Mumbai in 2007. He did a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the University of California San Francisco and has held full time academic positions at the University of Illinois Chicago and the American Cancer Society, Atlanta, USA.
Rijo M. John is an economist and public health policy analyst who independently consults for Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CTFK), Washington, DC,Public Health Foundation of India, New Delhi, and World Health Organization, New Delhi among others in the area of economics of tobacco control. He’s also a Member of Tobacco Policy Research Program at the East Tennessee State University, TN, USA.
